Core Beliefs
The following are the core beliefs of Pivot Point Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.
God
We believe in the Trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise. God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. (John 14:6-27, Galatians 4:4-6)
Jesus Christ
We believe in Jesus Christ. He was born of the Virgin Mary - very God and very man. We believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins, and that He truly arose from the dead. We believe that he is sitting at the right hand of God and is interceding for us. We believe that salvation is obtained only through true faith in Jesus the Christ. (John 3:14-17, John 14:6, John 1:1-18, Acts 16:31, Philippians 2:5-11)
The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, who enables believers to experience a Spirit-Filled life empowering them to overcome their shortcomings (sins) and to live in a way that expresses that inward change in their outward life so others can see Christ through our lives. (John:14-18, Galatians 3:1-14, Acts 15:8-9
The Holy Scriptures
We believe that the Bible was inspired by God to be written down by man so that we have the words of God to convict us, lead us to salvation, and to guide us in our daily lives. The Bible is the standard by which we judge our thoughts, words, and actions (and reactions) so that the person dedicated to God is equipped for every good work. (2 Tim 3:16-17, Psalm 19:7-10, Psalm 12:6)
Sin—Original and Personal
We believe that sin came into the world through the disobedience of our first parents, and death by sin. We believe that sin is of two kinds: original sin and personal sin. We believe that all have sinned and therefore we fall short of God’s glory. It is the sin within us that condemns us to hell and it is the sin that requires a savior. (Romans 3:23, Genesis 3; 1 John 1: 8-10)
Atonement
Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay the penalty for our sins and to purchase a place in heaven for us. Atonement is the process by which people have their obstacles removed that keep them from God because Jesus paid the restitution for our sins and this allows us to enter into heaven. (Isaiah 53:5-6, John 2:1-2, Luke 24: 46-48).
Grace and Free Will
We believe that the human race’s creation in Godlikeness included the ability to choose between right and wrong, and that thus human beings were made morally responsible. But we also believe that the grace of God through Jesus Christ is freely bestowed upon all people, enabling all who will turn from sin and believe in Jesus Christ are pardoned and cleansed from sin and then equipped for every good work. This grace of God given to individuals that releases them from their bondage to sin and enables them to come to Christ in faith but does not guarantee that the sinner will actually do so. God is a gentleman and although he wants everyone to be saved, he will never force you to make that choice. (John 6:44-45, Ephesians 2:8-10, Hebrews 2:1-4)
Repentance
We believe that repentance is a sincere and thorough change of the mind in regard to sin, involving a sense of personal guilt and a voluntary turning away from sin. We must confess our sins and refuse to continue living our lives in a way that runs opposite of God’s word. (1 John 1:9-10, Acts 3:19, Proverbs 28:13, 2 Peter 3:9)
Justification, Regeneration, and Adoption
We believe that justification is the gracious and judicial act of God. He grants full pardon of all guilt and complete release from the penalty of sins committed, and acceptance as righteous, to all who believe in Jesus Christ and receive Him as Lord and Savior. Justification makes us like we have never sinned in God’s eyes. When we repent of our sins and put our faith in God, He forgives us and judges us as not guilty. Our new faith and God’s grace takes us from death to life with God. Justification is given to us because of what Jesus did on the cross.
We believe that regeneration, or being born again, is when a person is made alive again in Christ, radically changed in their moral character (from the love of sin to the love of God), and adopted into the family of God. (Adoption means that we are accepted as children of God and are now part of His family..) When we receive the forgiveness of God we receive new life in Him. Regeneration is a new life that is not something we do out of our own strength but something that God gives us because He first loved us.
Justification and adoption represent the beginning of a new life (reality). Regeneration is how we are prepared to exist in this reality. The ongoing work of regeneration continues in the lives of believers.
(Romans 3:24-26, John 1:12-13, John 3:3-8, Acts 13: 38-39, Ephesians 1:6-7, 1 John 3:1-3, Romans 5:16-18)

The Church
We believe in the Church which is a group of Jesus’ disciples who teach how to follow Him. (Show, Know, Grow, Go) We believe that gathering together is a vital part of a Christian’s walk. We facilitate gathering both online in Facebook groups, online teaching, and small, local groups of believers. We express the unity of the church through fellowship, in worship through the preaching of the Word, observance of the sacraments, holy living, giving, and confession. It is our responsibility to share the gospel with others both in word and our lives. We show compassion, we give generously, we work for justice, and through these things we can show the world Jesus.
We believe in the church Universal which is made up of all Christians throughout time. The church transcends age, gender, race, geography, and socioeconomic lines.
(Acts 2:42, Matt 28:18-20, Ephesians 4:1-17)

Baptism
We believe that Christian baptism is a sacrament in which we declare that we are now following Christ. It is a public declaration of our devotion to Christ and represents us putting our old life to death so that we can follow Christ. Since it is a personal decision based on one’s acceptance of Christ as Savior, a person must be old enough to make that decision, therefore babies and very young children cannot be baptized. We can dedicate a child to God and parents and others can commit to raising this child in the Christian faith until he or she is old enough to make that decision themselves.
Baptism can be performed by immersion, pouring, or sprinkling according to the choice of the believer. Baptism is important; however, the New Testament does not teach that baptism is necessary for salvation. (Rom 6:3-4, Colossians 2:12, Acts 22:16, Acts 2:37-41)

The Lord’s Supper
Communion Supper instituted by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is a sacrament, proclaiming His life, sufferings, sacrificial death, resurrection, and the hope of His coming again. The Lord’s Supper is a means of grace in which Christ is present by the Spirit. All are invited to participate by faith in Christ and be renewed in life, salvation, and in unity as the Church. All are to come in reverent appreciation of its significance, and by it show forth the Lord’s death until He comes. Those who have faith in Christ and love for the saints are invited by Christ to participate as often as possible.
( Matt 26:26-29, Mark 14:22-25, Luke 22:17-20, John 6:28-58, 1 Corinthians 10:14-21, 1 Corinthians 11:23-32)

Divine Healing
We believe in the Bible doctrine of divine healing and urge our people [to seek] to offer the prayer of faith for the healing of the sick. We also believe God heals through the means of medical science.
(Matt 4:23-24, James 5:13-16, Isaiah 53:5, Matt 9:35)
(Matt 4:23-24, James 5:13-16, Isaiah 53:5, Matt 9:35)
Second Coming of Christ
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will come again. We live in anticipation of the return of Jesus, for He is our blessed hope. (Titus 2:13, Acts 1:9-11 )
Resurrection, Judgment, and Destiny
We believe in the resurrection of the dead, that the bodies both of the just and of the unjust shall be raised to life and united with their spirits — “they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.” We believe that we who are alive at His coming shall not precede them that are asleep in Christ Jesus; but that, if we are abiding in Him, we shall be caught up with the risen saints to meet the Lord in the air, so that we shall ever be with the Lord. (1 Thessalonians 4:13–18, John 3:16-18, 1 Corinthians 15:12-58,
We believe in future judgment in which every person shall appear before God to be judged according to his or her deeds in this life.
We believe that glorious and everlasting life is assured to all who savingly believe in, and obediently follow, Jesus Christ our Lord; and that the finally impenitent shall suffer eternally in hell. (Philippians 3:20-21, Hebrews 9: 27-28, Matthew 25:31-46, Romans 2:5-16, 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10, Revelation 20:11-15)
